I found this great video on EHow.com, the narrator of the video gives some great key points you need to take into consideration before buying or taking on the responsibility of building your own paint booth. There's government, state, and county regulations you need to research. If you plan on building a paint booth, you should think about having a fire suppression system. You need this just in case a fire breaks out or any explosion occurs, because you will be working with flamable spray paints. Watch the video for more information on paint booths.

When it comes to stopping rust, which is better? Eastwood Rust Encapsulator or POR-15? Well after doing my own research I think POR-15 has to win my vote. I've checked many forums, such as Corvette Forum and LS1Tech, they both seem to favor POR-15 as the winner out of the two. Great thing about POR-15 is it's really tacky stuff, it goes on real easy and you don't really need any prep. I do however suggest using their three step program, but the company claims you can spray it right on the rust.

The Rust Encapsulator still is a great alternative though, I haven't read any negative reviews yet. It's easy to use just like POR-15, just remove any loose rust, then just spray it on. If you want a really good job done, use Eastwood's Rust Converter first, then use the Rust Encapsulator last. Eastwood claims it has twice the corrosion resistance now. Rust Rncapsulator is now good up to 500 hours on a salt test. It also has a fast curing time, great penetrating properties, and is epoxy fortified.

But let you do your own decision making. For all I know, maybe Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator is better. I'm going to try out POR-15 first though, it's getting the most hype and has been advertised on My Classic Car with Dennis Gage.

This is the three step program, first use the Rust Converter which is gray, then use the Rust Encapsulator which is black.

This is definitely one of the most innovative automotive inventions I have seen, meet the Carcoon blow up paint booth. It may look a little goofy and stupid, but if you watch the video down below you may change your mind. Lately I've been looking for a way to get my 2002 Trans Am WS.6 painted for a low price, I'd rather do it myself and buy all the equipment than have a company paint it once for $4k - $5k. That way, if I have to paint the Trans Am again in 10 years I have all the supplies.

The Carcoon paint booth might be an option I might want to go. It's $3k less than a regular paint booth and comes with all the stuff you need to start painting your vehicle. It costs £ 2,400 in Euro, which converts to $3556.87 American dollars. Still not cheap, but if you're going to be painting and sandplasting a lot over the next few years this could be a very good investment for you.

The Carcoon paint booth uses a three stage filter process, initially air is filtered as it enters the work chamber providing a well ventilated clean dust free environment. The Carcoon paint booth is sold in United Kingdom, so I'm not sure if it meets all the OSHA and EPA regulations over here in the US. I'm going to have to look more into it.

The 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR-X makes the end of the era for the Dodge Viper. It's the last year of production for the Dodge Viper, Mopar has finally called it quits with the super car. SRT10 ACR-X is the last of its breed as some automotive enthusiasts might say, Dodge is only building 25 copies of the ACR-X Viper. The Viper is suped up with a 640 horsepower 8.4 liter V10, along with a race tuned suspension and more aerodynamic body work to improve downforce on the race track. The Viper ACR-X will have superior high speed handling compared to the other stock Dodge Vipers. The retail price on the turnkey race car is $110,000.

Occasionally I like to mix it up on here, for instance posting news on motorcycles and bikes. For instant this magnificent picture of Spectra Chrome's Purple Terror motorcycle. Just like Cosmichrome, Spectra Chrome is a new company that has hit the automotive industry with chrome paint for bikes and cars. Down below is a picture of how Spectra chrome is sprayed on. Easy steps that allows anyone to do this, the result is one unique cool looking custom motorcycle.

BMW is mostly known for luxury, but if you check out this picture of a M3 BMW, that has changed big time. This BMW has turned into looking like a chrome rocket that is ready to launch into outer space. The chrome paint job is out of this world, it was done by Goldtouch with their new Cosmichrome paint. This new paint has been around for six years now, I'm just so astonished it hasn't taken off. The chrome paint job on the M3 BMW is just beautiful. Watch the YouTube video to take you through the whole chrome paint job!

Down below is a video of Goldtouch's Cosmichrome system to spray on wheels and rims. It's totally automatic, the results look great at the end of the video. The big question though is will the spray on chrome last long, compared to lets say powder coating and chrome electroplating. I read on Goldtouch's site the Cosmichrome will last a 312 hour salt test, so it must hold up pretty well. I've had chrome plated wheel before and even they have a hard time holding up agains road grime, tar, and dirt. I once bought a set of chrome plated rims from discount tire, had them on my LS1 Chevy Camaro for a month and they started pitting. I really wonder if Cosmichrome will withstand the abuse of driving on the streets. Like I said in a previous post, the only way to find out is probably spray a set of cheap wheels and wear them for awhile. If I ever do, I'll definitely make a video and post about it on here.

I was looking for a chrome substitute and stumbled across Cosmichrome by Goldtouch. Unlike real chrome plating systems, it just needs to sprayed on by their patented Cosmichrome E-Gun. So how well does it replicate chrome? Well pretty darn good if you checkout the pictures down below of the hot rod, Mustang, and all chrome BMW. The all chrome BMW is just out of this world, so is the orange chrome hot rod. The word to describe these cars is "extreme," the paint job truly is unreal.

Supposedly Cosmichrome has been around for six years, it just makes me wonder why the paint hasn't taken off. I've been doing some research and have found out that some automotive enthusiasts have been using Cosmichrome on their wheels. Durability tests have shown Cosmichrome has lasted through 312 hours of salt tests. But, will it withstand rocks and other elements on the road such as bugs and tar.

I guess the only way to know is to try it ourselves. I have a cheap set of wheels around, I might give it a try.

Get the full effect of POR-15 with the three step process. I have been doing a lot of research on POR-15, a few automotive enthusiasts have been complaining that POR-15 flakes off within a year. I asked them if they prepped their metal surface on their car and their answer was no. So this tells you how important it is to use their three step process. Down below is a picture of POR-15's three step process, it's real easy to do.

First use their "Marine Clean," this will clean and degrease the metal. Second apply the "metal ready," this provides for the best adhesion for POR-15. And the third and last step is of couse POR-15. It can go directly on the rust, the company says it will seal off the rust completely and stop it in its tracks. You won't see any rust forming ever again.

At least that's what they claim! I'm going to be using it on my 2002 Trans Am WS.6, I already have had some rust problems on my underbody. Hopefully POR-15 is my answer, I guess only time will tell!
